Ricky Skaggs’ “Country Boy” is a 1984 country album released on Epic Records that showcased the Kentucky-born musician’s traditional bluegrass-influenced approach during the height of his mainstream country success. The album features Skaggs’ distinctive high tenor vocals and masterful mandolin playing across a collection of both original songs and carefully chosen covers. Notable tracks include the title song “Country Boy” and “Uncle Pen,” a Bill Monroe bluegrass standard that Skaggs made his own.
