“July 2024, sparrows, which had disappeared, returned to Paris. A new city is being invented by those who live and work there. But why had the sparrows disappeared?” Starting from this symbolic fiction, Danielle Simonnet outlines the balance sheet of the three previous mandates, which can be summarized in three words: gentrification, concretization, and privatization, and proposes a new horizon for Paris. What strategy can enable the return of sparrows and working and middle classes to Paris? If the financialization of the capital was made possible by sidelining Parisians in the making of their environment, the municipal challenge today is to regain control over the city. Social, ecological, democratic, a political urgency that requires, according to Danielle Simonnet, federating struggles and aspirations. This is the meaning of the municipalist approach she is undertaking in Paris, for the right to the city.
