Here’s a genuine sleeper from the late ’70s fusion scene that deserves more recognition among serious collectors. Neil Larsen’s “Jungle Fever” represents the keyboardist at his creative peak, captured during his prolific period working with everyone from Kenny Loggins to George Harrison. This 1978 Horizon release showcases Larsen’s sophisticated blend of jazz-rock fusion with Latin rhythms and smooth soul grooves, featuring stellar contributions from session heavyweights like Buzzy Feiten on guitar and the always-reliable Chuck Rainey on bass. The title track became something of a cult classic among fusion heads, while cuts like “High Steppin'” demonstrate why Larsen was such a sought-after collaborator in Los Angeles studio circles.
