Here’s a fascinating piece of early 70s rock history that brings together two artists at pivotal moments in their careers. Dave Mason, fresh from his departure from Traffic and riding high on the success of his solo debut “Alone Together,” teamed up with Cass Elliot during her transition from The Mamas & The Papas to establishing herself as a solo artist. This 1971 collaboration on Blue Thumb Records captures both musicians exploring new creative territory, with Mason’s intricate guitar work and songwriting complementing Elliot’s powerful, nuanced vocals in ways that neither had quite explored before.
