Here’s a fascinating piece of Canadian folk history that doesn’t surface very often. This 1981 compilation from Tapestry Records celebrates the silver jubilee of Stuart Gilmour’s influential folk music program, which introduced countless Canadians to both traditional and contemporary folk artists throughout the 1960s and 70s. Gilmour, a respected broadcaster and folk music advocate, curated this collection to represent the breadth of talent that graced his airwaves over those pivotal decades when folk music was experiencing its major revival and evolution.

What makes this pressing particularly noteworthy is its role as a time capsule of the Canadian folk scene during those formative years. The anthology features a mix of established artists alongside lesser-known regional performers who might otherwise have been lost to history, making it an invaluable document for serious collectors of Canadian folk music. Tapestry Records, though a smaller label, was known for their quality pressings and attention to detail in their folk releases. This isn’t just another compilation it’s a curated journey through a specific era of Canadian broadcasting and folk music culture, assembled by someone who lived it and helped shape it. For collectors focused on Canadian folk or those interested in the intersection of broadcasting and music history, this represents a unique artifact that bridges both worlds.
